How Kenwood and the ONE Platform® Work Together to Power Smarter Communication Across Any Operation

Radio communication has been a constant in operational environments for decades. From retail floors to distribution centers to senior living facilities, the two-way radio is still the most reliable way to reach someone in real time when it matters. What’s changed is the expectation of what a radio communication system should be able to do. It’s not just about voice anymore. It’s about connecting radio communication to the broader set of tools and workflows an operation depends on.

That’s where the relationship between Kenwood and the ONE Platform® becomes meaningful.

THE FOUNDATION

Kenwood is one of the most widely used radio manufacturers across commercial and operational environments. Their radios are trusted for their reliability, range, and durability in demanding conditions. Whether it’s an analog system in a smaller retail environment or a digital NXDN or DMR network in a large distribution facility, Kenwood radios are a common and well-understood piece of infrastructure.

For many operations, Kenwood radios aren’t just a communication tool. They’re the primary way staff stay connected across a shift. The investment in that infrastructure is real, and the expectation is that it should be able to do more over time, not just make calls.

THE CONNECTION

Kenwood radios integrate with the ONE Platform® through ONE Platform® IO Components. This integration supports a wide range of Kenwood radio capabilities, including analog and digital radio systems, NXDN and DMR protocol support, and both inbound and outbound text messaging.

What this means operationally is that the ONE Platform® can send alerts, notifications, and event-driven messages directly to Kenwood radios across the configured network. When the ONE Platform® triggers an event, whether it’s a temperature alert from a monitoring system, a nurse call from a senior living resident, or an emergency stop activation on a production line, that event can be broadcast over the Kenwood radio network to reach every staff member carrying a radio.

It also works the other way. Inbound text messaging from Kenwood radios can be received by the ONE Platform® and used to trigger workflows or responses. The communication flows in both directions, which opens up a broader range of use cases than one-way broadcasting alone.

THE IMPACT

The most immediate impact is reach. Any event that the ONE Platform® manages can now be communicated over a radio network that staff are already monitoring. There’s no new device to carry, no new app to check. The alert comes through the radio that’s already on their hip.

For operations that span large physical footprints, warehouses, multi-wing senior living campuses, or multi-department retail stores, the ability to broadcast targeted alerts over an existing radio network is significant. The ONE Platform® handles the logic of what to send and to whom. Kenwood handles the delivery to whoever needs to hear it.

Text messaging integration also adds a dimension of two-way communication that supports more nuanced workflows, like staff acknowledgment of alerts, status updates from the floor, or voice-initiated event flows through integrations like Sage Act.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR OPERATION

Kenwood radios are already doing important work in most of the environments where the ONE Platform® operates. This integration makes those radios part of a connected alerting and notification system, so every event that matters reaches the people who need to respond, through the device they’re already using.
